How many porta potties does a construction site need?

A construction site with 20 or fewer workers needs at least 1 toilet under OSHA rule 29 CFR 1926.51. Sites with more than 20 workers need 1 seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. For comfort, plan about one standard unit per 10 workers with weekly service. Busy crews of 15 to 20 may need service twice a week.

Legal minimum from OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c), Table D-1. Our suggestion assumes 40-hour weeks and one standard unit per about 10 workers with weekly service. Every standard unit has 1 seat and 1 urinal.

Read the rule at OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51. This is the legal minimum, not legal advice; your safety officer or general contractor sets site policy.

How often is a job site porta potty serviced?

A job site porta potty is serviced once a week on a set route day. Each service pumps the 60-gallon tank, scrubs and sanitizes the inside, restocks toilet paper and refills sanitizer. Service is automatic, so nobody has to call. Extra visits cost $55 each for big crews or pour days.

  • Driver logs each service with a time stamp on the door tag
  • November through March, brine antifreeze is added at every service at no extra charge
  • Moving the unit to another spot on the same site during service is free

How does 28-day billing work on a job site?

A job site rental bills every 28 days, starting on delivery day. A standard unit is $149 per 28 days with weekly service, plus a one-time $65 delivery and pickup. Billing stops the day you call for pickup, so a 5-week job pays for the days the unit is there.

Contractors can pay by card or company check, or apply for net-30 invoicing. Each invoice shows the job address and PO number so it reaches the right project.

Where should a porta potty go on a job site?

Place a job site porta potty on firm, level ground within reach of a 10-foot-wide truck path, away from trenches, swing radius and material drops. Keep the door facing away from the street when you can. On new-build lots with no address, send the subdivision, lot number and a map pin.

  • Stake or strap units on open lots; Missouri spring storms tip unsecured units
  • Keep units off fresh concrete, sod and septic fields
  • Free combination lock available so the public stays out after hours

Questions about construction porta potty rental

Our regular supplier didn't deliver. Can you get one out to the site today?

Same-day job site delivery works when you call by noon, Monday through Saturday, for sites within about 30 miles of St. Peters. The same-day fee is $50. Give the site address or a map pin and a crew contact, and the driver texts when on the way.

I only need it for three days on a roofing job. Do I pay for a full month?

A short job can use the event rate instead. A standard unit for up to 7 days is $165, with delivery and pickup included and no service visit needed. Past 7 days, the 28-day job site rate with weekly service usually costs less.

The lot has no address yet. How will the driver find it?

Send the subdivision name, the lot number and a map pin when you book. A stake with flagging tape on the spot helps. The driver texts on the way, and nobody has to be on site. This is how most new-build lots in O'Fallon, Wentzville and Dardenne Prairie get delivered.

Is the weekly cleaning optional if the site sits idle?

Weekly service stays on during active rentals, because an unserviced unit gets ugly fast in Missouri heat. If the site shuts down for two weeks or more, call and we can pause service and billing by picking up the unit, then re-deliver when work restarts.

Can you bill our company instead of charging a card?

Businesses can apply for net-30 invoicing. Approval usually takes 1 to 2 business days. Until then, a card or company check starts the rental. Each invoice lists the job address and your PO number.

Do you supply hand-wash stations for painting or roofing crews?

A two-sink hand-wash station is $119 per 28 days on a job site, with weekly refills. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) requires washing facilities for crews applying paints, coatings, herbicides or insecticides. Many roofers add a station for tar and sealant cleanup too.
